So this turned up today thanks to the very lovely Vicky Folland of Vicky’s Driving Tuition for collecting it on my behalf. As previously mentioned I won Driving Instructor of the Year - North East 2024. The Gold award. It was a huge surprise although I have to admit via Tarot Cards suggested I was going to (see my other site www.tarotwithellis.co.uk) 😜. I have been overwhelmed by the support of my pupils over the years and very blessed with those amazing pupils. I love this job (apart from having to prove my ability to the DVSA every 4 years).
Being a great instructor in my opinion does not take an awesome pass rate although it’s nice to have. Being a great instructor means supporting your pupils when they’re not successful on their driving test as well as when they are. It’s also about encouraging those pupils to believe in themselves when they’re taking longer than their family and friends. It’s about allowing them to do things the way they understand doing it (as long as it’s safe and legal to do so).
So what I’d like to do is thank all the pupils I’ve had over the years who have come to believe in themselves when they didn’t initially. Who trusted me to decide when they are ready to take their test. Who didn’t run away when their first test didn’t go the way they wanted but trued again, and again for as long as it took. I’m so proud to serve you all and thank you for whoever nominated me. It’s made my whole year and helped to push away my imposter syndrome.
It’s nice to be nice after all.
